Wow, so glad a friend shared Gary’s interview with me. I’m hopping over to Amazon to get his book now. As an auto transport broker, an entrepreneurial woman in a man’s environment there are many points I walked away with from listening. I agree with Gary’s assessment of the Old Spice campaign. They amassed a lot of followers and generated buzz and then dropped the ball. Without lifetime value you may as well have not done the campaign in the first place.
The building and growing of a community is where it’s at. Too many business still, today, look at one-off purchases from consumers rather than how to create customers for life. The big brands know how to do it, and now social media can help make it a reality for many more businesses. All they need to do is shift their thinking and embrace what social media can truly do for their companies. It’s not going anywhere but everywhere.

Great interview..Gary is right on and I love his quote about the future of business that “the successful businesses will learn to map customer acquisition.” That is something my company has been working on. We plan to move the cost of marketing to the point of purchase and map the entire process. I have now been re-invigorated that my ideas have validity. Thank you Gary
